About
Scoil Nais Aitinn Bhuí (Yellow Furze National School) is a vibrant primary school that places the well‑being and holistic development of its pupils at the centre of its ethos. The school aims to provide a safe, happy and inclusive environment where children are encouraged to learn, explore and build strong relationships with peers, staff, parents and the wider parish community. A strong emphasis is placed on community involvement and the school acts as a focal point for local activities, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose. The school offers a broad range of extracurricular opportunities that complement the curriculum, including gymnastics sessions, buddy‑reading programmes for younger classes, and cultural events such as salsa dance workshops. Recent developments have expanded the learning environment: the original four‑classroom building has been extensively refurbished and extended, now comprising additional classrooms, a modern gymnasium, dedicated office and staffroom spaces, and a well‑maintained sports pitch that has been levelled, drained and planted. These facilities support a varied programme of academic and recreational activities, enabling pupils to develop confidence, creativity and physical fitness alongside their academic studies.
History
The original parish school, situated in the church grounds, operated separate boys’ and girls’ schools and later served as a parish hall from the 1950s until its demolition in the 1980s. The current school began as a typical four‑classroom vernacular building, unchanged from the 1950s until a major extension and refurbishment were approved in 2002 and completed in 2004, adding three new classrooms, a gym, office and staffroom. A further expansion in 2010 added two classrooms, and a 2019 project introduced two additional classrooms, reconfigured internal spaces, off‑road car parking, and a newly levelled and planted sports pitch.
