About

Scoil Bhríde, Athgarvan is a Catholic primary school serving the Newbridge parish on the Curragh Plains. It operates as a vertical, co‑educational institution offering classes from Junior Infants through to 6th Class. The school’s ethos centres on its motto “Áit do Pháistí” – a place for children – and it strives to provide a nurturing environment where academic learning is balanced with a strong emphasis on personal development, community involvement and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The campus comprises twelve modern classrooms and a range of specialist facilities, including a GAA pitch, sports hall and dedicated spaces for activities such as gymnastics, chess, sewing and gardening. A vibrant healthy‑lifestyle committee organises a variety of sporting and extracurricular programmes, encouraging pupils to engage in basketball, football, tag rugby, athletics and other pursuits. Senior pupils are represented by a student council, ensuring that student voices contribute to school decision‑making. Scoil Bhríde places particular focus on environmental stewardship through its Green Schools programme and promotes outdoor learning via regular walks on the Curragh. The school’s crest, featuring St Brigid’s cross and blue water symbolising the River Liffey, reflects its connection to local heritage and the natural surroundings.

History

The original school building on the current site was erected in 1965. Since then the school has expanded to a twelve‑classroom facility accommodating 316 pupils in the 2020/21 academic year.
