About
Scoil Naisiunta Brighde (Tooreen N.S.) is a rural, co‑educational primary school located in the village of Tooreen, Co. Mayo. With an enrolment of 114 pupils, the school provides a supportive learning environment staffed by a team that includes mainstream teachers, special‑education teachers, special needs assistants, a secretary and a caretaker. The school’s ethos centres on partnership with parents and the holistic development of each child, fostering a love of learning, respect, responsibility and confidence. Emphasis is placed on creating balanced, well‑rounded young people who are happy, cooperative and capable of reaching their full potential. The curriculum is delivered through a blend of traditional classroom teaching and a variety of enrichment activities. Recent projects have included probability and chance in mathematics for fourth class, basket‑weaving in art for third class, and participation in Scór na bPáistí, reflecting a commitment to both academic rigour and cultural heritage. Inclusive provision is a key feature, with dedicated special‑education staff and assistants supporting pupils with additional needs. Modern facilities support the school’s educational aims, notably high‑speed broadband connectivity supplied via the Department of Education School Broadband Programme under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. This infrastructure enables enhanced digital learning resources and ensures the school remains up‑to‑date with contemporary teaching methods.
