About
Cloonliffen National School is a Catholic, co‑educational primary school situated in the rural community of Cloonliffen, approximately four kilometres from Ballinrobe, County Mayo. The school provides a caring, happy and secure learning environment for its 79 pupils, catering for children from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class. It follows the Irish Primary School Curriculum while placing equal emphasis on the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural development of each child. The ethos is rooted in Christian values yet recognises and respects other religions, actively promoting equality and celebrating the cultural diversity of the school community. The teaching team includes mainstream, special education and English as an Additional Language (EAL) staff, supported by special needs assistants, ensuring that pupils with a range of learning needs receive appropriate instruction and support. A strong partnership with parents is encouraged, with regular home‑school links and involvement in school life. Recent initiatives such as Winter Olympic‑themed STEM challenges and participation in local quiz competitions demonstrate the school’s commitment to innovative, experiential learning that builds confidence, teamwork and a love of discovery. Facilities are typical of a modern rural primary school, providing dedicated classrooms for each class group, specialist spaces for special education and EAL, and areas for physical activity and creative arts. The school day runs from 9.20 am to 2 pm for Junior and Senior Infants and to 3 pm for 1st‑6th classes, with scheduled break and lunch periods that support a balanced routine.
