About
Scoil Naisiunta Cill Lachtain (Killoughteen N.S.) is a rural, mixed‑gender, Catholic primary school situated just outside Newcastle West. The school serves a close‑knit community and places a strong emphasis on a happy, supportive atmosphere underpinned by an active parents’ body. Its educational ethos combines the national curriculum with a commitment to inclusive practice, welcoming children of all abilities and backgrounds. The school operates ten mainstream classrooms alongside two dedicated autism provision classes, reflecting its focus on specialised support. In September 2018 the school expanded its offering with the on‑site pre‑school “Killoughteen Kids”, providing early years provision for younger children, and a second autism class was added in September 2022. Facilities include dedicated learning spaces for the autism classes, a range of extracurricular programmes such as STEM, Green Flag and Active Schools initiatives, and a well‑maintained school garden, all contributing to a well‑rounded educational experience.
