About
Scoil Naisiunta Dhrom Athain (Dromahane National School) is a co‑educational primary school situated on the western side of Dromahane village, County Cork. The school provides education for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, following the Irish National Primary Curriculum as set out by the Department of Education and Skills. In addition to the core academic programme, the school places a strong emphasis on the moral, spiritual, social and physical development of each pupil, offering a broad range of extra‑curricular activities such as sport, music and drama, environmental projects through its Green School initiative, and participation in science award schemes. The school operates a full‑day timetable from 9.20 am to 3.00 pm, with the infant classes finishing at 2.00 pm. Recent investment has resulted in a brand‑new, purpose‑built building opened in March 2024, providing modern classrooms and facilities that support a safe and stimulating learning environment for the over 220 pupils currently enrolled. The school’s ethos centres on nurturing each child’s potential in a supportive community setting.
History
The school opened in 1966 when 135 pupils transferred from the former Dromore School to the new premises. After more than half a century of service, the school moved into a newly constructed building on 20 March 2024, a project that had been in planning for 18 years.
