About

Scoil Naisiunta Domhnach Mór is a small, rural Church of Ireland national school situated in the Glen of Imaal, County Wicklow. The school caters for children from Junior Infants through to 6th class, with a two‑room, multi‑age set‑up that encourages older pupils to mentor younger ones, fostering a close‑knit, family‑like atmosphere. The ethos stresses equality and respect for every pupil regardless of background, and the philosophy is to provide a caring, secure environment where each child can develop holistically – academically, physically, culturally, spiritually and socially. The campus benefits from a generous outdoor area that includes a basketball court, playground equipment such as swings, slides and tunnels, and open fields for safe play. Additional space is available in two large parish halls, enabling activities like hip‑hop, gymnastics, GAA and physical education even on rainy days. A varied programme of extra‑curricular events – from a “Spooky Walk” in the forest at Halloween and a traditional Christmas party, to Pancake Day cooking, science and maths weeks, heritage walks and an annual sports day shared with three other schools – enriches the children’s experience and promotes community involvement.

History

Donoughmore National School was founded in 1883 and has remained a small rural school nestled on a quiet cul‑de‑sac leading to Donoughmore Church. Over the years it has retained its Church of Ireland foundation while welcoming pupils of all faiths and none, maintaining a strong community focus and a commitment to holistic education.
