About
Scoil Naisiunta Mhuire Na Mbrathar is an Edmund Rice primary school situated on Griffith Avenue in the Marino community of Dublin 9. The school provides a Catholic‑based education that emphasises personal, social and academic development within a welcoming and inclusive environment. A vibrant student council, an active parents’ association and a dedicated staff work together to create a supportive ethos where pupils are encouraged to explore their interests, develop confidence and become lifelong learners. Since September 2025 the school has been transitioning to a vertical co‑educational model, extending its provision from Junior Infants through to the senior classes. This change reflects a commitment to continuity of learning and community cohesion, allowing children to progress within the same supportive setting throughout their primary years. Facilities support a broad curriculum, including dedicated spaces for mathematics, Gaelic games, outdoor learning, re‑wilding projects and swimming programmes, ensuring a balanced blend of academic rigour and holistic development.
History
The school’s site forms part of the historic Marino estate, originally developed in the mid‑18th century by Lord Charlemont, who renamed the land after San Marino. After the estate passed to the Christian Brothers in the 1920s, a purpose‑built boys’ school was constructed on Griffith Avenue and opened on 13 August 1928, enrolling 466 pupils on its first day. The school rapidly grew, reaching 775 pupils within a year. For nearly a century Scoil Mhuire served the Marino parish, and in September 2025 it began a phased transition to a vertical co‑educational primary school, further strengthening its role in the local community.
