About
Kilbrin National School (Scoil Naomh Eoin Baiste) is a small, rural primary school situated in the north‑west of County Cork, serving children from the hinterland between Kanturk, Kilbrin, Liscarroll and Castlemagner. With an enrolment of 67 pupils and a team of three teachers plus a shared learning‑support teacher, the school provides a close‑knit environment that nurtures spiritual, intellectual, emotional and social growth. The curriculum is underpinned by a mission to develop the whole child, fostering happiness, self‑esteem and responsible citizenship while welcoming pupils of all faiths, nationalities and abilities. The school’s facilities include four main classrooms, a dedicated learning‑support room, a sensory/relaxation room opened in 2023, and a strong room, office and staffroom. Outdoor provision comprises a well‑kept playground and a basketball court, supporting the school’s Green School ethos. Technologically, the school is equipped with 23 Chromebooks and uses G‑Suite, giving each pupil an email account for collaborative learning. Recent upgrades such as a new A‑roof (2009), full rewiring and fire‑alarm installation (2022), and ongoing roof repairs (2024) demonstrate a commitment to a safe, comfortable, and energy‑efficient learning environment.
History
The original school building was constructed in 1972 following the amalgamation of Ballygraddy and Curraghs National Schools. Since then the school has expanded its facilities and modernised its infrastructure, including roof and window upgrades, rewiring, fire‑alarm installation, and the addition of a sensory/relaxation room.
