About

St Michael’s National School in Sneem is a vibrant, inclusive primary school that tailors its teaching to the individual needs of every pupil. The school operates a mainstream curriculum that is adapted for children with additional needs, and it places a strong emphasis on integration, allowing students to move between mainstream classes and specialised environments as required. A dedicated July Provision Programme ensures continuity of learning over the summer while providing a camp‑style experience. The campus boasts two purpose‑built autism classrooms – the Rainbow Room and the Sunshine Room – supported by a range of specialist facilities including a Sensory Room, Nurture Room, interactive whiteboards in spacious classrooms, a PE room, football field, basketball court and a secure, fenced outdoor area featuring a vegetable garden, climbing wall and climbing bridge. Additional safety measures such as access control are in place, and all pupils benefit from the free school meals programme. The school’s location in the “autism‑friendly” village of Sneem enables frequent community outings and extracurricular activities such as cookery, music lessons, gymnastics, science workshops and field trips to local attractions, enriching the educational experience beyond the classroom.
