About
Scoil Naomh Pádraig in Kanturk provides a holistic primary education that balances academic rigour with the spiritual, physical, moral and cultural development of its pupils. The school’s ethos, encapsulated in the motto *“Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí”* (Praise the youth and they will flourish), underpins a caring, respectful and secure environment where children are encouraged to become confident, lifelong learners. A broad curriculum is complemented by a strong emphasis on extracurricular activities, including a wide range of sports such as hurling, football, basketball and soccer, as well as participation in national initiatives like Active Schools Week, C25K and the Golden Mile. The school also champions a variety of cultural and environmental programmes, from Scór na bPáistí and Seachtain na Gaeilge to Green Schools projects and STEM challenges. These initiatives aim to foster community spirit, environmental stewardship and creative thinking. Modern facilities support these endeavours, providing dedicated spaces for physical education, wellbeing, and collaborative learning, ensuring that each child can explore their interests in a supportive and well‑resourced setting.
History
Scoil Naomh Pádraig was established in 2022 through the amalgamation of two historic local schools: St. Colman’s Boys National School (operating from 1982 to 2022) and the Convent of Mercy Primary School (1936‑2022). The merger created a unified, co‑educational primary school that continues the legacy of both predecessor institutions while offering a contemporary, inclusive educational experience for the Kanturk community.
