About

Scoil San Eoin is a small, co‑educational primary school nestled in the picturesque village of Redcross, serving the surrounding rural community. Under the patronage of the Archdiocese of Dublin, the school delivers a Catholic ethos while also fostering tolerance and respect for other beliefs. A holistic approach underpins the curriculum, aiming to develop pupils intellectually, physically, culturally, creatively, morally and spiritually, and to build self‑esteem, confidence and a love of lifelong learning. The school benefits from modern, purpose‑built facilities, including two spacious classrooms, a dedicated purpose room for physical activity, group work and team teaching, as well as accessible amenities such as a disabled water‑closet and ample storage. Small class sizes enable personalised attention, encouraging pupils to develop strong social skills in a friendly, supportive environment where they are respected and valued. A wide range of extra‑curricular activities complements the academic programme, helping each child to discover and develop their talents while having fun learning. Partnership is central to school life; teachers, the Board of Management, clergy, parents and ancillary staff work collaboratively to maintain a safe, positive atmosphere. Close home‑school links and a strong sense of community ensure that every child is guided towards becoming a confident, competent individual ready to contribute to society.

History

Scoil San Eoin National School was built in 1963, replacing an earlier 1895 building, on a site donated by the Williams family in Redcross, Avoca Parish – the largest parish in the Archdiocese of Dublin. William O’Keeffe served as principal from 1973 until his retirement in 2012, after which a new principal was appointed. The school underwent a complete renovation in the summer of 2012, followed by the addition of a new classroom with disabled facilities and storage in September 2015. A further classroom extension was completed in 2019, resulting in two modern, spacious classrooms and a purpose room for varied activities.
