About

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh is a Gaelscoil situated on Garbally Drive in Ballinasloe, East Galway. It provides Irish‑medium primary education for children from Junior Infants through to 6th Class, with a current teaching staff of fourteen. The school’s ethos centres on active, child‑centred learning, encouraging pupils to develop academically, socially and culturally from their very first day. The campus comprises ten classrooms, a dedicated Learning Support Room, resource rooms, a library, a computer suite and a large multipurpose hall. Two spacious play areas – one at the front and one at the rear of the building – support outdoor learning and recreation. In addition, the school offers a pre‑school (Naíonra) and an after‑school care group, providing a seamless educational experience for families throughout the day.

History

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh was founded in 1990 with six children. Carmel Uí Fhearghail served as the first teacher and principal. The inaugural class was taught in a converted hair salon on Society Street, later moving to a former café and bike shop and subsequently to the town hall. In September 2005 the school relocated to its current purpose‑built premises in Garbally Drive, Céide Ghearrbhaile.
