About

Shellybanks Educate Together National School is an inclusive primary school situated in the Sandymount area of Dublin, offering both mainstream and specialist autism classes. The school follows the Educate Together ethos of equality, diversity and child‑centred learning, delivering the “Learn Together” curriculum which integrates academic, social and emotional development. Resources for teaching are tailored to support collaborative learning, and dedicated special educational resources ensure that pupils with additional needs receive appropriate support. The campus provides a range of facilities designed to promote wellbeing for both students and staff, including a morning club, after‑school programme and dedicated spaces for student wellbeing activities. Recent investment through NextGeneration EU funding has enabled the development of a new, purpose‑built building that enhances learning environments and community use. The school also maintains strong links with families and the local community, reflected in regular newsletters, Instagram updates and a vibrant extracurricular programme.

History

Shellybanks ETNS originated from a small group of parents passionate about the Educate Together model, who, together with the Educate Together head office, campaigned for a new primary school in the Sandymount/Ringsend area. Following a series of community meetings, fundraising events and engagements with the Department of Education and Skills, patronage was approved in September 2013. The school opened its doors in September 2014 in a temporary location on Simmonscourt, Ballsbridge, before moving to its permanent, modern building. Milestones include a visit from the Minister for Education and Skills in February 2015 and the celebration of its five‑year anniversary in September 2019.
