About
Slatta National School is a small, co‑educational Catholic primary school located in the rural community of Slatta, Kilglass, Co. Roscommon. The school follows a holistic educational philosophy that seeks to develop each child’s intellectual, spiritual, moral and cultural capacities within a framework of Catholic ethos and inclusive values such as respect, fairness, honesty and self‑esteem. Learning is delivered through a balanced programme that integrates traditional classroom teaching with a strong emphasis on experiential and project‑based activities. The school benefits from a wide range of facilities that enhance the curriculum. Every pupil has access to a personal iPad, interactive flat panels, and a well‑stocked library refreshed every two to three years. Dedicated STEM kits, construction games, musical instruments and a polytunnel support hands‑on investigation, while sports equipment, a swimming programme at AURA Leitrim Leisure Centre, and Gaelic and soccer training foster physical development. Regular outings—including visits to local heritage sites, farms, theatres and nature reserves—alongside inter‑school competitions in soccer, Gaelic football, basketball, rounders and handball, provide rich opportunities for community engagement and personal growth. The close‑knit size of the school creates a family‑like atmosphere where pupils receive individual attention and support.
