About
Scoil Náisiúnta Bhaile an Chuisín is a small rural national school located in the heart of County Mayo, between the villages of Shrule, Kilmaine, Tuam and Claremorris. The school prides itself on delivering a high standard of primary education within a warm, welcoming environment where the physical and emotional wellbeing of each child is paramount. A favourable teacher‑pupil ratio enables personalised attention and encourages interaction across all age groups, allowing younger pupils to learn from older classmates and fostering a strong sense of community. The curriculum is fully explored and delivered in line with national guidelines, with particular emphasis on inclusivity and the holistic development of every learner. Recent improvements, such as a comprehensive repainting and new feature walls completed in the summer of 2021, have refreshed the learning environment. In addition, the school is planning to introduce an on‑site daycare facility to provide before‑ and after‑school care and early childhood education for the local community.
History
Founded in 1964 as Scoil Naomh Iósaf, Baile Cuishín has served as a central pillar of the surrounding parishes of Shrule and Kilmaine. Over the decades the school has remained a focal point for the community, evolving its facilities and programmes while retaining its historic role as a gathering place for generations of local families.
