About
St Abbans National School is a small rural primary school situated in Killeen, Maganey, Co. Laois, catering for boys and girls from Junior Infants through to 6th Class. The school operates under Roman Catholic patronage and follows a holistic ethos that seeks the intellectual, physical, cultural, moral and spiritual development of each pupil, with a strong emphasis on a living relationship with God and the wider community. The curriculum is enriched with a range of extra‑curricular programmes such as computer classes, drama, rugby, GAA, and music, and the school promotes an “Active School” philosophy where physical activity is valued and enjoyed by all pupils. The school community is inclusive, with a full‑time special educational needs (SEN) teacher and a shared SEN resource, supporting the diverse needs of its 104 pupils. Four teachers deliver the core programme, and the school has achieved four Green Flags, working towards a fifth, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability. A supportive Parents Association and Board of Management foster a caring, secure environment where respect is taught and effort is recognised.
