About
St. Aidan’s Community College is a state‑funded, co‑educational, multi‑denominational post‑primary school founded in 1983 to serve the local community. The college delivers a full range of programmes from the Junior Cycle through Transition Year to the Senior Cycle, including the Leaving Certificate Applied. Its curriculum is underpinned by a commitment to academic excellence, personal development and the spiritual and moral growth of pupils, reflected in the school motto “Bíodh bhur solas ag taitneamh – Let your light shine”. A strong pastoral framework, guidance counselling and a dedicated chaplain support students’ wellbeing and respect for diverse beliefs. The college benefits from modern facilities, including a purpose‑built PE hall (added 2000) and expanded classroom blocks (added 2010), as well as up‑to‑date specialist rooms and a well‑stocked library. A 2021 grant under the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan enabled the purchase of IT devices and accessories to bridge the digital divide, providing laptops, tablets and TEAMS access for learners at risk of disadvantage, including EAL and special‑education needs students. The school also offers a virtual tour, a range of extracurricular activities and a digital learning plan that integrates technology across teaching and learning.
History
St. Aidan’s Community College was founded in 1983. Since its establishment the school has undergone several extensions, with a PE hall added in 2000 and new classrooms added in 2010. Its founding principle was to develop opportunities for students to realise their individual potential, a goal that remains central to the college’s ethos today.
