About
St. Aidan’s National School in Tallaght is a vibrant primary‑level community school that welcomes children of all backgrounds. The school’s ethos centres on recognising each child as unique and brilliant, offering a broad, balanced curriculum that blends core academic subjects with a rich programme of sport, music, dance, drama and visual arts. Facilities include a spacious school hall adorned with a colourful mural celebrating the multicultural makeup of the pupil body, as well as dedicated spaces for sports and performing arts. A strong partnership between staff, parents and the Board of Management underpins everyday life, with regular communication facilitated through a dedicated school app that provides up‑to‑date information, policies and a direct link between families and the school. Extracurricular activities are encouraged both during and after school hours, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to develop personal talents and a sense of pride in their school community.
History
St. Aidan’s SNS was built in 1983 alongside St. Brigid’s NS. Before its official opening the building hosted bingo nights and classes such as tae kwondo, and a separate Traveller school operated on the site. In 1984 the school opened with eight teachers, working alongside the Traveller school; the two later merged, making St. Aidan’s one of the first multicultural schools in Ireland. A large mural in the school hall, painted in 1990 by an artist and pupils, celebrates the school’s diverse roots.
