About
St Anne’s National School is a co‑educational Catholic primary school situated on the southern edge of the Shanganagh moraine in Shankill, Dublin. Under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin and in partnership with the Board of Management, parents and the local parish, the school delivers a curriculum that balances academic rigour with the development of physical, emotional, social, moral and spiritual wellbeing. The ethos promotes a happy, inclusive Christian environment where children are encouraged to grow in self‑esteem, respect and care for others, while also welcoming pupils of other faiths or none. The campus has been expanded several times to meet the needs of a growing community. Facilities now include sixteen modern classrooms, a purpose‑built hall, a library, a new staff room, and a purpose‑designed soft‑play area for younger children. Outdoor spaces comprise landscaped play areas, lawns, flower beds and an upper car park for parents. The school enjoys panoramic views of the Dublin and Wicklow mountains, providing a pleasant setting that supports both learning and recreation.
History
The original St Anne’s Schools were erected on the present site in 1960, consolidating pupils from two smaller local schools. Officially opened by Archbishop McQuaid in 1961, the campus originally housed separate boys’ and girls’ schools. By 1970, prefabricated classrooms supplemented the solid rooms due to rising enrolments. A major expansion in 1985 added sixteen spacious classrooms, administration facilities, a staff room and a purpose hall, surrounded by landscaped grounds. Further developments in 2005 introduced three additional classrooms, a library and a new staff room, together with an upper car park. In 2016 a soft‑play area was opened for junior infants to first class, enhancing indoor play provision.
