About
St. Anne’s National School, Seafield, is a Catholic primary school serving the parishes of Stradbally and Ballylaneen in County Waterford. The school’s ethos combines a strong Catholic foundation with a respectful openness to other faiths, fostering an inclusive community where pupils from diverse cultural backgrounds feel welcome. Its mission centres on building confidence, self‑esteem and academic achievement while encouraging respect for the environment, Irish heritage and personal responsibility. The curriculum is delivered across Junior Infants to Sixth Class, with a particular emphasis on bilingual development – pupils are encouraged to use Gaeilge in everyday learning and to explore the natural surroundings as part of their studies. The school has achieved Green Flag status, reflecting a commitment to sustainability through reduction, reuse and recycling initiatives. Parent involvement is actively promoted through regular home‑school communication, supporting a collaborative approach to each child’s development.
History
St. Anne’s National School was established in 1957 to replace the former Ballylaneen and Bunmahon national schools. The original principal was Seán Prendergast, succeeded by Jim Cullinan in 1970. In 2006 Ann Coffey became principal, and in 2017 the leadership passed to the current principal, Paddy Doyle. The school has continued to evolve, maintaining its community focus and Catholic ethos throughout its history.
