About

St Brigid’s Girls’ National School is a Catholic primary school for girls situated beside Cabinteely Park in South Dublin. The school provides a warm, welcoming and positive environment where pupils are encouraged to reach their full potential academically, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually. Teaching follows the Department of Education’s curriculum within a Christian ethos that promotes acceptance, self‑belief, a strong work ethic and respect for diverse cultures and faiths. The school prides itself on a holistic programme that includes strong academic results, a vibrant music tradition with a choir and orchestra, and a commitment to environmental education through its garden and Green Schools initiatives. Sporting excellence is supported by dedicated facilities and a range of extracurricular activities, while wellbeing programmes and the Active Flag promote health and personal development. With over 530 pupils and a staff of around 25, the school offers a well‑resourced setting that nurtures creativity, inquiry and community spirit.

History

The origins of the school date back to 1807 with the establishment of Clonkeen Schoolhouse in Foxrock. In the 1840s Cabinteely Male and Female Schools were opened, receiving state funding in 1845. After periods of closure and rebuilding, a government grant in 1912 enabled the construction of a new school on a two‑acre site at Mart Lane, Foxrock, and the name changed to St Brigid’s National Schools in 1915. The boys’ and girls’ schools shared this location until November 1988, when the Girls’ School relocated to The Park, Cabinteely, where it now serves over 530 pupils.
