About

St Brigid’s Primary School, The Coombe, is a Catholic, co‑educational primary school situated in the heart of Dublin. It serves a diverse community as a DEIS Band 1 school and offers education from Early Start (pre‑school) through to 6th class, providing continuity for boys who wish to remain at the school for the full primary cycle. The school operates in partnership with the parish of St Francis Street, facilitating the preparation of children for the sacraments of Penance, Communion and Confirmation, and fostering a Christian ethos centred on care, respect and social responsibility. The school moved into a modern purpose‑built facility in 2008, located adjacent to the historic 1887 building, giving pupils access to contemporary classrooms, specialist learning spaces and a dedicated Early Start unit. Emphasis is placed on developing the whole child: the curriculum is delivered in a vibrant, supportive environment that promotes self‑esteem, celebrates diversity and encourages active participation in local and international charitable projects, such as Trócaire initiatives and the Penny Dinners fundraiser. Governance is provided by an active Board of Management that meets regularly and works collaboratively with parents and staff. The school’s mission statement underlines a partnership approach, where teachers and families jointly nurture each child’s potential, uphold professional development, and maintain a safe, inclusive community that values every pupil’s gifts.

History

St Brigid’s, The Coombe was established in 1887 by the Holy Faith Sisters. It remained a Holy Faith school until 2008, when the school relocated to a new, purpose‑built building situated next to the original structure on The Coombe.
