About
St. Eithne’s Girls National School is a Catholic‑ethos primary school situated in Edenmore, Raheny, Dublin 5, catering for girls from second to sixth class. The school provides a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages each pupil to reach her full intellectual, academic, physical and social potential. In addition to the mainstream classes, St. Eithne’s runs a mixed Early Intervention class and an ASD Primary Girls class, both introduced in August 2020, demonstrating a strong commitment to special educational needs provision. The curriculum is enriched by a wide range of extra‑curricular activities, including sport, music, art and crafts, as well as recognised STEM and Digital Awards. Pupils take part each year in the Junior Entrepreneur Project, and the school follows a whole‑school approach to reading comprehension through the “Building Bridges of Understanding” programme. Facilities include high‑speed broadband delivered under the Department of Education’s School Broadband Programme, and the school offers free healthy snacks and lunches funded by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. Recent recognitions such as the Active School Flag and the Amber Wellbeing Flag reflect the school’s focus on health, safety and holistic development.
History
St. Eithne’s G.N.S. was established in 1968 under the patronage of the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin. From its founding until September 2000 the principal was a member of the Poor Servants of the Mother of God religious order; in 2000 the school appointed its first lay principal. The school has continuously served the local community, and in August 2020 it expanded its provision by creating a mixed Early Intervention class and an ASD Primary Girls class. Its main feeder school is St. Monica’s Infants School, located on the same campus.
