About
St Eunan’s National School, Laghey is a small primary school situated on the main Donegal Town‑to‑Sligo road beside the village of Laghey. The school operates with a team of five teachers and two dedicated Special Education teachers, supported by five Special Needs Assistants. With an enrolment of approximately 118 pupils, the school provides a welcoming, inclusive environment for children of all faiths and backgrounds, while remaining under the patronage of the Diocese of Raphoe. The campus boasts five state‑of‑the‑art classrooms, a staffroom, and two wheelchair‑accessible Special Education rooms. Outdoor facilities include a 3G all‑weather pitch and a full‑size basketball court, supporting the school’s active‑learning ethos. A strong emphasis is placed on community partnership and experiential learning, with regular visits from local musicians, historians, artists, and professionals who enrich the curriculum through workshops, sports coaching, and STEM programmes. The school also participates in the Green School programme, having earned a fifth Green Flag for biodiversity and currently working towards a sixth, alongside the Active Schools Flag for its commitment to health and wellbeing. Rooted in a Catholic ethos, St Eunan’s encourages spiritual development through participation in Catholic Schools Week, sacraments, choirs and liturgical celebrations. Gaelic language is actively promoted, with daily immersion activities, drama, songs and poetry, fostering fluency and cultural appreciation among pupils.
