About

St Luke’s National School is a Church of Ireland primary school situated on Mahony’s Avenue in Montenotte, Cork. Operating under the patronage of the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross and the City of Cork Church School Board, the school serves as the parish school for St Anne’s Church, Shandon and the designated primary for Glanmire Parish. It is a co‑educational, inclusive institution that welcomes children of all backgrounds and abilities, reflecting the values of the Church of Ireland while fostering a welcoming community atmosphere. The school provides four mainstream classes together with a dedicated Special Class for autism, which opened in September 2023, demonstrating a commitment to differentiated learning and support for diverse needs. Its curriculum is guided by a comprehensive set of aims and values that emphasise equity, personal responsibility, broad and varied educational experiences, parental partnership, physical and mental wellbeing, environmental stewardship and the celebration of creativity, curiosity and resilience. These principles underpin a learning environment where every pupil is encouraged to achieve their full potential. Facilities include classrooms equipped for both mainstream and specialised instruction, and the school benefits from a range of resources that support its inclusive ethos. Regular communication with families, a strong Board of Management and active parental involvement further enhance the school’s supportive and collaborative culture.

History

St Luke’s National School was founded in 1889. In September 2023 the school expanded its provision by opening a Special Class for autism, reinforcing its long‑standing commitment to inclusive education.
