About
Tallaght Community National School is a state‑run, co‑educational primary school for children from Junior Infants to 6th Class. It operates under the patronage of the Church of Ireland but is fully multi‑denominational, welcoming pupils of all faiths and none. The school’s ethos is built on the core values of excellence in education, care, equality, community and respect, and it strives to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can reach their full potential. The campus is set in extensive grounds that include mature trees, green fields and two playgrounds, providing ample space for outdoor learning and recreation. The school places a strong emphasis on the active involvement of parents and the wider community, encouraging participation in events such as Christmas carol services, harvest celebrations and Easter activities. Its educational approach combines high academic standards with a focus on honesty, justice, fairness, sensitivity and civic responsibility, reflecting the scriptural values of the Church of Ireland while remaining inclusive and welcoming.
History
Tallaght Community National School was founded in 1979, initially holding classes in the parish hall beside St Maelruain’s Church. The present school building was constructed in Jobstown and opened in October 1982, originally surrounded by green fields and pastures. As housing developments grew, the school began serving children from the surrounding neighbourhoods. Although the school was intended to be adjacent to St Maelruain’s Church, land constraints led to its location in Jobstown. The grounds of St Maelruain’s remain extensive, featuring green fields, mature trees, two playgrounds and a staff car park.
