About

St. Mary’s Primary School is situated in the townland of Lisroyne, Strokestown, County Roscommon, and provides a warm, secure environment for around 130 pupils. The school’s ethos centres on fostering happy learners who develop a lifelong love of learning, with a strong emphasis on personal development, emotional health and wellbeing. A balanced curriculum is enriched by participation in the Say Yes to Languages programme (introducing French to third‑through‑sixth classes) and the Blue Star programme, which educates pupils about Ireland’s role in the European Union and the 27 member states. The school actively promotes fitness and environmental stewardship through the Active School Flag and Green Flag initiatives, currently working towards its third Active School flag and eighth Green Flag. Sporting opportunities include Gaelic football via Cumann na mBunscol, as well as basketball and soccer competitions. Inclusive provision is highlighted by dedicated autism classes opened in 2022 and expanded in 2023, alongside a Book Rental Scheme and a free School Hot Meals Programme accessed via an online app. Modernised facilities within a building dating from 1954 support contemporary teaching and learning.
