About

St Mary’s Boys’ National School is a Catholic vertical primary school serving Junior Infants through sixth class in Lucan Village, ten kilometres west of Dublin city centre. The school provides a child‑centred education rooted in Christian values such as respect, honesty, kindness, tolerance and happiness, and operates under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin. A broad and balanced curriculum is delivered with an emphasis on quality teaching, life‑skill development and inclusive practice for all pupils, including those with special educational needs. The campus comprises twenty modern classrooms equipped with interactive touchscreen boards, air purifiers and CO₂ monitors, alongside eight resource rooms and a dedicated sensory room. Extensive sporting facilities include two football pitches, three distinct play areas, a small sports hall, an astro‑covered enclosure with a climbing wall, sports wall and basketball court. Digital learning is supported by over 50 shared iPads, a school app for weekly newsletters, and platforms such as Aladdin and Google Classroom. Extra‑curricular clubs range from maths and Gaeilge to hurling, football and STEM activities, fostering a well‑rounded experience for every boy.

History

The school was founded in 1864 beside St Mary’s Church. In 1965 it relocated to a new five‑classroom building on Chapel Hill, and has since expanded to twenty classrooms serving 524 boys and a staff of 40.
