About
St Mary’s National School, Fairview is a Catholic primary school under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin, welcoming boys and girls from Junior Infants to 1st Class and girls from 2nd Class to 6th Class. The school provides an inclusive, child‑friendly environment that prioritises safety, respect and the celebration of diversity, including a dedicated autism class. Its curriculum is enriched with initiatives such as Zoom Ahead With Books, Time to Read, Time to Count, coding sessions and Modern Irish sign‑language classes, all designed to develop literacy, numeracy and digital fluency while fostering cultural awareness. The campus features both junior and senior yards, a spacious field for outdoor play, and specialist support through partnerships with St Vincent’s GAA, Shelbourne FC, yoga teachers from the NEIC and Saor Dance and Fitness. From 3rd Class upwards, pupils receive swimming lessons in Westwood, further broadening their physical education. Guided by a vision of educational excellence and a mission to equip pupils with the skills needed for a rapidly changing world, St Mary’s aims to nurture each child’s full potential in a happy, safe and inclusive setting.
History
St Mary’s National School is situated behind Fairview Church, between Philipsburgh and Windsor Avenues, and has served the Fairview, Ballybough, East Wall, North Strand and surrounding communities for over a hundred years. The current building was erected in 1953, originally housing separate Junior and Senior schools within the same structure. Prior to that, a two‑room school operated on the site now occupied by the parish hall. In 1992 the Junior and Senior schools amalgamated into a single entity, and the school continues to welcome second and third generations of local families.
