About

St Mura’s National School, Tooban, is a co‑educational primary school set in a rural location on the Derry‑Buncrana road in County Donegal. Under the patronage of the Bishop of Derry, the school follows a Catholic ethos that seeks to nurture the full development of each child – emotionally, intellectually, physically, culturally, morally and spiritually. A strong pastoral focus underpins a caring, happy and secure atmosphere, with a zero‑tolerance stance on bullying and an emphasis on respect and encouragement throughout the school community. The school’s modern, single‑storey campus provides a range of facilities to support both learning and extra‑curricular activity. Eight ensuite classrooms, a physical‑education hall, two resource rooms, a computer suite, a kitchen, and dedicated library and learning‑support prefabricated units cater for academic needs. Outdoor provision includes a tarmac play area with a basketball court, a football court, a concreted hard‑core area and two grass fields for varied weather conditions. A broad programme of sports – GAA, soccer, rugby, basketball, athletics – alongside quizzes, debates, art competitions and music and drama events, offers pupils ample opportunities to develop skills and interests beyond the classroom.

History

Scoil Naisiunta Naomh Mura opened on 12 December 1987 as an amalgamation of the former Inch and Fahan schools. It is situated in the Parish of Fahan, Inch and Burt and serves the local community on a large site adjacent to Lough Swilly. An extension to the existing building was completed in May 2005, adding further classroom and support space.
