About
St Patrick’s Boys’ National School is a vibrant Catholic primary school serving the parishes of Donabate, Portrane and Balheary. The school prides itself on a child‑centred, holistic approach that balances academic rigour with social, spiritual and physical development. All pupils are welcomed regardless of faith, and the ethos “Ní neart go cur le chéile” – “We are stronger together” – underpins a collaborative community where parents, pupils and staff work in partnership. The learning environment is modern and well‑equipped. Classrooms are purpose‑built, bright spaces fitted with interactive whiteboards and class sets of iPads and tablets to support a technology‑enhanced curriculum. Dedicated learning‑support and resource rooms, a state‑of‑the‑art sensory room, and a sensory garden cater for diverse learning needs. Physical education is supported by a PE hall, basketball court and ample outdoor recreation areas. A virtual tour of the facilities is available for prospective families. Beyond the classroom, the school encourages active pupil voice through a School Council and promotes extra‑curricular engagement via a range of clubs and activities. The inclusive ethos aims to nurture confident, empathetic individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to their community and wider society.
History
St Patrick’s Boys’ National School traces its origins to 1824 when it was founded and endowed by Sophie Evans, the grand‑aunt of Charles Stuart Parnell, at Portrane House. Originally known as Portrane Boys’ National School, it was housed in what now forms part of College Court on the Portrane Road. The school relocated to its present site in 1980 and was further extended in 2000, retaining its long‑standing tradition of educating boys in the Donabate, Portrane and Balheary area.
