About

Stonepark National School is a Roman Catholic primary school situated in the village of Stonepark, Co. Longford, approximately one kilometre outside Longford town and three miles south‑east of the town centre on the Athlone Road. The school serves a community of 243 children and operates with a staff complement of fifteen teachers, supported by learning‑support teachers and special‑needs assistants. Its educational ethos is founded on the Catholic Charter, aiming to nurture the intellectual, spiritual, moral, emotional, social, physical and cultural development of each pupil. A broad academic programme, complemented by a strong sports curriculum and a well‑established extra‑curricular offering, reflects the school’s commitment to fostering curiosity, cooperation and lifelong learning. The campus blends historic and modern facilities. The original 1893 building remains in use alongside a ten‑classroom extension, completed in October 2016, which includes a purpose‑built G.P. hall and new offices. Uniform policy requires a red jumper, navy trousers or skirt (or navy tracksuit bottoms) and a white polo shirt, promoting a cohesive school identity. The school follows Department of Education and Skills guidelines for curriculum development and adheres to a comprehensive set of policies that support the wellbeing of pupils, families and staff.

History

Founded in 1893, Stonepark National School began as a modest four‑teacher institution. Following the turn of the millennium the school experienced substantial growth, expanding to a fifteen‑teacher staff and an enrolment of 243 pupils. In October 2016 construction commenced on a new ten‑classroom building, complete with a G.P. hall and offices, which now sits alongside the original 1893 structure, marking a significant development in the school’s physical infrastructure.
