About
Taney Parish Primary School is the Church of Ireland parish school serving the Taney community in Dundrum, Dublin. It provides a co‑educational, child‑centred curriculum for 390 pupils from Junior Infants to 6th Class, with two classrooms per year group. The school places a strong emphasis on a broad and balanced education, offering extensive opportunities in the arts, sport and extracurricular activities such as cultural tours, church services and charity projects, all designed to develop confidence, resilience and a sense of responsibility. The campus combines historic charm with modern facilities. Recent building programmes have produced a purpose‑built, state‑of‑the‑art environment that includes learning support rooms, a well‑stocked library and a dedicated drama space. These resources support a diverse student body and enable the school to deliver a rich curriculum that meets the needs of a 21st‑century learning community while maintaining a happy, inclusive atmosphere.
History
Taney Parish Primary School was founded in 1792 as a charitable parochial school for the under‑privileged of the parish, originally providing education, clothing and food. In 1898 it entered the National Education System and received roll number 15284, retaining this identifier to the present day. The school grew steadily, moving from its 1897 building to a new six‑classroom facility opened in November 1970 under Principal Robert W. Smyth. Further expansion in the 1970s created an 18‑teacher institution, and a major building programme under Principal Beryl Tilson replaced prefabricated structures with a purpose‑built complex. Subsequent extensions added learning support rooms, a library and drama space, and the school now stands as the largest Church of Ireland national school in the Republic of Ireland, continuing a tradition of over two centuries of service to the Dundrum community.
