About

Scoil Naomh Feichin is a co‑educational Catholic primary school serving the village of Termonfeckin, a short drive from Drogheda. Operating under the patronage of the Archbishop of Armagh, the school provides a nurturing environment for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, with a staff complement of 26 teachers. The school’s Catholic ethos seeks the harmonious development of the intellectual, physical, cultural, moral and spiritual dimensions of each pupil, encouraging a living relationship with God and with one another. The curriculum follows the Department of Education & Skills framework, delivering a broad programme that includes Mathematics, English, Irish, SESE (Science, History and Geography), SPHE, the Arts (Visual Arts, Music and Drama) and Physical Education. Facilities are housed in a purpose‑built building on the Baltray Road, opened in 1980, which provides modern classrooms, specialised spaces for special‑needs and English‑as‑an‑Additional‑Language (EAL) support, and areas for creative and sporting activities. The school’s inclusive approach ensures that all learners, including those in the special class, receive tailored assistance to achieve their full potential.

History

Scoil Naomh Feichin is named after St Fechín, a 7th‑century saint originally from County Sligo who founded a monastery at Fore, County Westmeath, and died in 664. Historically, Termonfeckin operated two separate primary schools for boys and girls; these were amalgamated in 1936 to form a combined school at Yellow Gap. Due to outdated facilities, the Yellow Gap premises were vacated in 1980 when the current school building on the Baltray Road was completed. The foundation stone of the new school was blessed by Cardinal Tomás O Fiaich in 1980.
