About

Tierneevin National School (Scoil Naomh Colmán Mac Duaigh) is a co‑educational, Catholic primary school situated in the rural parish of Gort, County Galway. Set against the backdrop of the Burren mountains and close to the historic Kilmacduagh Monastery and Round Tower, the school provides a tranquil learning environment for its 109 pupils. The school day runs from 9.20 am to 2 pm for Junior and Senior Infants and until 3 pm for the remaining classes, offering a structured timetable that supports both academic and personal development. The school places a strong emphasis on the holistic wellbeing of each child, fostering a safe, caring and inclusive atmosphere. Core values such as respect, trust, empathy, encouragement, appreciation and belonging underpin the curriculum, which aims to meet the intellectual, spiritual, social, emotional, physical, moral and cultural needs of pupils. With a small dedicated team of six teachers—including classroom, learning support and resource staff—the school can provide personalised attention and a range of extra‑curricular activities that enrich the primary experience.

History

Scoil Naomh Colmán Mac Duaigh was founded in 1975 as an amalgamation of Kilmacduagh N.S. and Killomoran N.S. It has since developed into a vibrant rural primary school serving the Gort community.
