History
Tirelton National School opened its doors on Wednesday 2 November 1887 as two separate institutions – a boys’ school under Jeremiah Coghlan and a girls’ school under Miss Ellen Joyce. On the first day five boys and four girls enrolled; within a year the boys’ roll had risen to 83 and the girls’ to 74. The two schools were amalgamated in April 1930, forming the single co‑educational school that continues to serve the community today.
