About
Tynagh National School is a rural primary school situated in the heartland of East Galway, serving children from Junior Infants through to 6th Class. The school provides a welcoming environment that aims to nurture each pupil’s potential, encouraging exploration of individual talents, varied learning styles and the development of critical thinking skills. A strong partnership with the local community underpins the school’s ethos, fostering collaboration between staff, families and pupils. The school operates across several dedicated classrooms, originally established as a three‑room building in 1945, and now accommodates the full range of primary year groups. A broad programme of extra‑curricular activities enriches the curriculum, including music generation sessions, participation in local athletics, hurling, cycling, show‑jumping and theatrical outings such as the “Frozen” musical. These opportunities support a well‑rounded education that balances academic learning with creative and sporting pursuits.
History
Tynagh National School opened in 1945, replacing the earlier “Old School”. On Thursday 5 July 1945 the original roll number of the old school was removed from the National Schools register, and the following day, Friday 6 July 1945, pupils and teachers moved into a new three‑classroom school situated across the road.
