About
St Ultan’s National School is a co‑educational primary school serving the Bohermeen parish, welcoming children from Junior Infants through to sixth class. The school operates under the patronage of the Archbishop of Meath and follows the Department of Education and Skills framework, delivering a Catholic‑inspired yet inclusive ethos that recognises all faiths. Learning is approached holistically, with a focus on developing confidence, thoughtfulness and a love of learning, while high expectations are set for both achievement and behaviour. Strong partnerships with parents and the wider community underpin the school’s commitment to each child’s wellbeing and personal growth. The campus has been expanded several times, most recently in 2015, and now provides a range of modern classrooms, two dedicated resource rooms and specialised spaces for special‑education support. A team of mainstream and special‑education teachers, together with support assistants, ensures that individual learning needs are met. The school actively promotes environmental stewardship through its Green Schools programme, encourages participation in sport, the arts and wellbeing initiatives such as the Amber Flag, and fosters student voice through a vibrant student council and a variety of whole‑school events.
History
Bohermeen National School, named after St Ultan, is one of three co‑educational schools in the Bohermeen parish and operates under the patronage of the Archbishop of Meath. Educational provision in the area began in chapels in the eighteenth century, with a formal school opening in January 1834 under the will of Fr Branagan. Early teachers included Black Peter Daly, and a school built in 1864 later gave way to the present building constructed in 1938 under Fr O Keefe. Extensions were added in 1990 (three classrooms), 2008 (two classrooms and two resource rooms) and 2015 (two further classrooms). Today the school serves around 240 pupils with a staff that includes mainstream and special‑education teachers.
