About
Educate Together Secondary School Wicklow (ETSS Wicklow) is a co‑educational, multi‑denominational post‑primary institution situated in the heart of Wicklow Town. The school’s ethos centres on inclusion, equality and student voice, providing a supportive environment where every learner is respected regardless of social, cultural or religious background. Teaching and learning are active, relevant and student‑centred, with a strong emphasis on developing knowledge, skills and confidence for both academic success and lifelong participation in society. The school offers a broad curriculum complemented by a wide range of extracurricular clubs, leadership opportunities and wellbeing programmes. Facilities are being expanded with a new, modern, state‑of‑the‑art building on the existing site, designed to foster innovation, collaboration and a positive learning atmosphere. ETSS Wicklow does not require a traditional uniform, provides a canteen for meals, and includes specialised ASD classes. The daily timetable runs from 8.41 am to 3.35 pm (with a shorter Wednesday schedule), incorporating structured tutor time, balanced teaching periods, breaks and a lunchtime that supports both academic and social development.
History
Educate Together’s roots trace back to the Dalkey School Project of 1978, which pioneered multi‑denominational, equality‑based education in Ireland. Following the establishment of the national Educate Together movement and its charter in 1990, the organisation expanded to include second‑level schools, receiving formal recognition as a second‑level patron in 2011. On 28 August 2019, Educate Together Secondary School Wicklow opened its doors for the first time, marking a new chapter in post‑primary education in Wicklow Town. Since opening, the school has steadily grown its programmes, facilities, student leadership opportunities and extracurricular provision, and continues to develop as a dynamic, inclusive community.
