About
Woodstock Educate Together National School is an equality‑based, co‑educational primary school that delivers the full Department of Education National Curriculum within a child‑centred, democratically run framework. The school places equal emphasis on academic achievement and the development of the whole child, fostering communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking skills. In addition to the core subjects of literacy (Gaeilge and English), numeracy, science, history, geography and physical education, pupils engage with the “Learn Together” Ethical Education curriculum, exploring belief systems, moral values, environmental issues and social justice. The school operates from a temporary modular campus situated opposite the Newtownmountkennedy Community Centre, providing flexible learning spaces and easy access to community facilities. A structured daily timetable balances literacy, numeracy, motor‑skill activities and subject lessons with dedicated breaks for healthy eating, free play and social interaction. The ethos of inclusivity ensures that every child is welcomed as a full participant, with democratic processes that involve pupils, parents and staff in decision‑making, reinforcing a supportive and respectful learning environment.
History
The school opened on 29 August 2019 as Newtownmountkennedy/Kilcoole Educate Together National School, created through strong community and parental support. The name “Woodstock” was chosen to reflect the local Woodstock Stream, symbolising the connection and vitality between the Kilcoole and Newtownmountkennedy communities and referencing its appearance on the 1660 Down survey. In September 2021, with approval from the Department of Education and the patron, the Board of Management formally changed the name to Woodstock Educate Together National School.
